Staceyk, why is it that their ears and nose are removed ??

Please keep in mind that I am not an expert on Middle Eastern culture.

This may be related to "honor killings" - something that is an old practice in the middle east (ME). This practice has been discouraged/prosecuted by many countries in the ME in recent times.

However, from what I have read - this is when a male family member kills a female in the family for "dishonoring" the family. It is thought to "cleanse" the family from dishonor. One of the things they do is remove the nose/ears - I am not sure why.

This is interesting as Beth Doe is theorized to be of ME decent. That may explain why no one seems to have reported her missing.

Well, it's definitely going to be a woman who was with child, that is for sure.

Sallie Margaret Reed disappeared in February of 1976. Beth Doe was found in December of 1976. This is plenty of time for a pregnancy to occur. Maybe she was held captive...

The details regarding Reed's disappearance are very few. Maybe someone here can research this case and find some old newspaper articles regarding Reed's disappearance.

Or whoever she was with decided they didn't want her and the child. So sad.

What's really sad is I can find NO information about Sallie Margaret Reed's disappearance at all. I have researched all records dated 2/19/1976 and other dates, and there are no details regarding this girl's disappearance anywhere.

Richard - you are the researcher champ for sure - can you find anything about this lady?
