glitter23 Pregnant, Missing, Pasadena, CA, 1976

LAWTON MORNING PRESS, Saturday, December 4, 1976

Suspect Jailed
For Kidnaping;
Victim Missing
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — A man was
booked for investigation of murder,
kidnaping and burglary Friday after a
car and foot chase by police. His alleged
victim — a woman six months
pregnant — was missing and feared
slain.
Law enforcement officers and bloodhounds
searched a rugged mountain
area in the Angeles National Forest
north of this foothill suburb Friday for
Renee Kane, 26.
Her purse and shoe were found in a
car driven by Emery Riddle, 24, of
Pasadena, who was arrested for investigation
of murder because of the
"strong possibility of foul play," said
Arcadia Police.Capt. Billy Oliver.
Mrs. Kane apparently was kidnaped
from her Arcadia home Thursday during
a burglary. Her husband, Robert,
said she was missing when he returned
home at 9 p.m. and found the house
ransacked. About $2,000 in property
was taken.
Police said property from the Kane
house was found in Riddle's car.
Superior Court Judge Robert Olson
signed an order to release Riddle so he
can take police to the location in the
forest, about 25 miles northeast of
downtown Los Angeles, where Mrs.
Kane is believed to have been taken.
Riddle's car was stopped by Pasadena
police at 3:40 a.m. Friday because
it matched a description from
Mrs. Kane's neighbors. After Riddle
Wrecked his car during the police
chase, he fled on foot. Officers fired
four shots at him that missed. Police
said he was armed with a rifle but did
not return the fire.
Riddle suffered bruises and two broken
ribs in the crash. He was treated
at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, then
transferred to the jail ward at County-
I'SC Medical Center.
