A body was found this afternoon behind the Kmart on South Wall Street in Calhoun.
According to Lt. Tony Pyle, a detective with the Calhoun Police Department:
The body of a white male, estimated to be in his late teens or early 20s, was discovered behind the store on the edge of a woodline around 3 p.m. It was found by a person driving on a cut-through road behind the building.
Pyle said the body is being sent to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for investigation and identification.
“We’re still working on the victim’s identity since there was no wallet or ID with the body,” Pyle said. “And the GBI has been called in to assist in the investigation. “The case is being worked as a homicide right now, but that’s protocol. Anything that seems like it’s not a natural death is initially treated as a homicide.” Pyle said detectives are continuing the investigation this evening and he said within the next 24 hours, police hope to confirm the victim’s identity.
